Everyone loves customized t-shirts. They promote business, they usually have great colors and designs, and best of all, to most people, these custom t-shirts are either really expensive or they’re free! If they’re really expensive, they’ve got a licensed design from a team or sport or maybe a rock band, or if they’re free, they’re some kind of promotion shirt being given away from a really cool sponsor. Regardless of which, most custom t-shirts are usually in pretty high demand. But they can be a royal pain to set up and can be terribly expensive. That is, they used to be.

Not that long ago designing a customized t-shirts design was a long, drawn out process with lots of steps and lots of people involved. And on top of that, you had fees for all kinds of parts of the process, from the graphics design all the way down to run fees and set up fees, which made the cost of designing and producing custom t-shirts an expensive process as well as a lengthily one. Several weeks worth of work could take place from the initial concept phase of the shirt design, taking it back and forth to the graphics design department at the t-shirt company before a design was approved. Then that design had to be converted into a form the company could use to make the t-shirts with. This set up fee could be a huge expense. Then the run fee, which was the fee you had to pay to have the design put on the lot of shirts. And last, but not least, was the cost of the shirt itself, and the cost of putting the design on the shirt. This meant the final cost in terms of time and dollars could be incredible.

However, times have changed. Online design labs make it easy to upload those graphics and lay out the text where we want it. This enables us to set up a lot of different concepts for our shirts, letting us run through design ideas in a matter of minutes, instead of a matter of weeks per design before. And by being able to set up the design ourselves, this saves a lot of money not having to pay for a graphics designer at the t-shirt company.

Doing the design work ourselves not only saves the money of a graphics designer, but also saves money in set up fees, as the file is already set up for the company when we get done..
